5 Unique Resort and Spa Experiences in Virginia to Visit on Your Next Self-Care Day

Self-Care is Not Selfish

As a therapist at The Sterling Group, something I frequently share with clients is that self-care is not selfish. In fact, it’s anything but that, and it encompasses part of the foundation of long-term healing. The way I promote self-care in one of my therapy sessions is that there is no such thing as “too much” of this meaningful practice… When I first begin chatting with my clients about self-care, I’ll often give an extensive list of examples before helping them identify personalized routines and activities. However, I don’t just hand clients a laundry list of “what” to do, I also explain the “why” of engaging in self-care activities. Why explain the “why”? Because we are a society with a chronic case of intellectualizing. We love knowing the “why” of everything. I get it, it’s comforting. If it “makes sense” then it must be acceptable and safe, right? The answer is, sometimes. But, self-care doesn’t always have to logically make sense in order to understand its significance. This leads me to the “why” in choosing to write about local resorts and spas on a therapy blog.

The Mind-Body Connection

Are you ready for it… (*cue Taylor Swift). The “why” is because of… mind-body connection. We love it, we need it, and we often lack it. It’s so common to accidentally rely on that beautiful mind of yours to generate thoughts, especially thoughts about how you are feeling, that lead to getting out of touch with your body. When stepping into a resort or spa, you can expect to smell all of the scents, feel all of the feels, taste all of the tastes, and so much more. They are fantastic places to go to unplug and work on building that body awareness that leads to the mind-body connection. Trust that your nervous system is going to be hard at work, in the best way possible.

If you’re interested in beginning to rebuild that mind-body connection or just want to spice up your self-care routine, check out one of these unique experiences Virginia has to offer

What really makes Salamander Resort shine, is that it is an equestrian-focused resort, meaning all of this serenity will take place alongside beautiful horses roaming the property, making it the perfect place to decompress and relieve anxiety.
